Cartoon D’Or Award

25/09/09 13:17 CET

David O’Reilly, an Irish born but Berlin based filmmaker, was the winner of 2009 Cartoon d’Or for best short film animation.

O’Reilly’s experimental 3D film was entitled Please Say Something and about the unequal love between a cat and a mouse – emotions O’Reilly tried to convey without using facial expressions. The trophy added to O’Reilly’s collection with a Golden Bear at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. O’Reilly said: “‘I’m very flattered obviously. I am very glad that it says my name on it already(D’OR) so it was obviously meant to be..no I don’t know. I am very happy and surprised.” Held in Stavanger in Norway, the cartoon forum was a new category at the European Film Awards, set up to help talented artists turn their ideas into award winning productions and it was an opportunity to meet key players in the industry. A project pitched at the Cartoon Forum had a one in three chance of making it to production.
