Japan’s parliament votes in Hatoyama as PM

Yukio Hatoyama has been formally selected as Japan’s new prime minister.

The confirmation comes after a vote in parliament following Hatoyama’s landslide election victory last month. The success of his centre-left party ends almost 50 years of near-unbroken rule by the conservative Liberal Democratic Party.More about: ,
