Fans and fellow actors have paid moving tributes to Patrick Swayze, the heart-throb star of Dirty Dancing who has died at the age of 57. He became a worldwide star when Dirty Dancing defied the Hollywood doubters to become a cult classic in the late 80s.
In a wide-ranging career Swayze wasn’t scared to tackle challenging roles, as in ‘To Wong Foo: Thanks for everything, Julie Newman’ where he dressed as a woman. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year, but kept on working to the end. His last role was the lead in a cop show called ‘The Beast.’ But it is as a screen sex symbol that he will be most remembered, especially with Demi Moore in ‘Ghost’. Patrick Swayze was born in Houston in August 1952, and was married to wife Lisa for 34 years.
