Israel has returned fire after a cross-border rocket attack from Lebanon.
At least two rockets struck northern Israel. The Israeli military responded, firing 15 shells into Lebanon, according to security sources there. It is the first time since February that rockets have been fired from Lebanon into Israel. A Palestinian faction in Lebanon has reportedly said it carried out the attack. UN peacekeepers in Lebanon and the country’s army have deployed extra troops to prevent any escalation. No casualties have been reported on either side but the incident raises tensions along a border that remains volatile, three years after Israel’s war with Hezbollah.
