UK retailers still suffering


British retail sales fell last month compared with August last year. It was the first decline since May.

The British Retail Consortium’s monthly survey showed like-for-like sales were down 0.1 percent as there has been no revival in consumer confidence and cost-conscious shoppers refrained from splashing out on non-essential items. Furniture, clothing and house textiles did particularly badly.
