The Informant, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Matt Damon, was premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival and managed to get the crowd laughing.

The film is the true story of how Mark Whitacre, a senior executive at agricultural processor Archer Daniela Midland was recruited by the FBI to inform on illegal price fixing within the industry. An inept spy, he is also a liar which leads to predictable but amusing results. Matt Damon said he thoroughly enjoyed putting on the extra 10 kilos required to turn him into a cheesy slob and certainly there’s no hint in this film of the hot n sweaty Jason Bourne franchise.
