Venice gets a bittersweet show on Day 1

The Venice film festival has had its first day of new movies.

Todd Solondz’s latest release “Life during Wartime” picks up with the Jordan family where he left off with 1998’s “Happiness”. No less grim is Australian John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road”, starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, and Robert Duvall. Both films are in competition for the Golden Lion first prize.More about: , ,
