Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has succeeded in having most of his cabinet line up approved.

Parliament backed his proposed new health minister, the Islamic State’s first female minister. But two other female nominees – for education and welfare – have been rejected by parliament. The president now has three months to propose new candidates but the cabinet can begin working. The highly-prized oil portfolio has gone to Massoud Mirkazemi despite him being fiercely criticised as Commerce Minister in the previous cabinet.More about: , ,
