Iranian rock band Hypernova have been based in the US for 2 years now and still enjoy playing gigs without having to hide from the police.

Lead singer Raam says that the kind of music they play, ie rock, was illegal in Iran and so they didn’t even bother applying for a permit from the Ministry of Culture. They just played underground shows.” Once in the US on a visit, they soon decided to stay and have recorded their first album “Through the Chaos”. In the meantime however, prompted by the scenes they saw on the television in the aftermath of the recent Iranian elections, Hypernova have released their first politically motivated song. It is a message of support for the protesters entitled Freedom Glory Be Our Name and the band say that following the song’s positive reception they now intend to start a non-profit organisation called the Freedom Glory Project to support other artists creating art and music in the underground scene in Iran.
