A joint French-Spanish operation has led to the capture of three men suspected of being key members of the armed Basque separatist group ETA.

Alberto Machain Beraza, on the Spanish government’s most-wanted list, had been sought in connection with two attacks in July. They were arrested in Le Corbier, in the French Alps. Last month ETA claimed responsibility for the murder of two Spanish Civil Guards on the island of Mallorca, and also for an attack on a Civil Guards barracks in Burgos, northern Spain, in which 46 people were injured. Car bombs were used in both cases. The three men under arrest are suspected of providing weapons and explosives for ETA. They were found in possession of hand guns and false papers.More about: , ,
