People from across Europe have taken part in a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the “Pan-European Picnic” — a gathering that enabled hundreds of people to escape from behind the Iron Curtain to the West.
It was a highly symbolic moment, signalling the beginning of the end of the barrier that cut Eastern Europe and its people off from the West.
