Suspected ship hijackers arrested

Russia has arrested eight people in connection with the missing merchant ship Artic sea.

Its disappearance left authorities baffled until the vessel was found off the Cape Verde Islands yesterday. Russia’s naval authorities say the investigation is on-going and that the suspected hijackers include Russian, Estonian and Latvian nationals. The two week disappearance of the Artic sea and its 15 man Russian crew sparked speculation of foul play, most notably the ship had been the target of either pirates, mafia or spies. The Finnish vessel was hi-jacked off Sweden on the 24th July then freed. Four days later it lost radio contact leading to a full scale search and rescue operation.
