Romanian police set to strike over pay

Police in Romania are planning a five-day protest over pay and working conditions.

Staff have been complaining for months that they have been forced to use their own money to buy the basics in order to do their jobs. With its economy struggling, the government has sought loans from the International Monetary Fund and the EU in order to pay many of its civil servants. Some 5,000 policemen and women are expected to take part in the daily two hour long demonstrations. Other civil staff are also expected to stage protests in the face of huge budgetary cuts.More about: ,
