Madonna wows Warsaw without a hitch

Madonna’s show in Poland has gone ahead with a low turnout by Catholic protesters. More than 80,000 fans came to see the American pop star’s debut in Warsaw. Some pious Poles were offended that this leg of her “Sweet and Sticky” tour came when they celebrate physical ascension into heaven by the Virgin Mary — prescribed in the papal encyclical of 1950. One of the fans said: “If somebody wants to go to church it’s up to him. I want to go to the concert.” Today is Madonna’s birthday. She is 51. The few Poles that did come to protest on Saturday were mostly older.
