The Basque separatist organisation ETA has claimed responsibility for the July 30 car bomb attack on the Spanish Island of Mallorca.

The explosion, said to have been set off by a timer device, killed two members of the civil guard. From the very start Spain’s government blamed the group – ETA is has often targeted police officers. The Basque separatists issued their statement through the internet site of the pro-independence Basque daily Gara, it is a regular channel for ETA communications. The group also claimed the June 19 car bomb attack that killed a 49-year-old police inspector in the Basque town of Arrigorriaga. ETA is blamed for the deaths of over 800 people in its decades-long campaign for an independent Basque homeland encompassing parts of northern Spain and southwest France.More about: , ,
