Croatia and Slovenia many be neighbours but there’s not much love lost between them. Especially over the issue of their mutual border. The dispute is long-running and has resulted in Slovenia blocking Croatia’s bid for membership of the EU.

Since the collapse of Yugoslavia 18 years ago, Slovenia has complained that Croatian territorial claims deny Slovenia a direct route to the Baltic Sea. All eyes now are on the new Croatian president Jadranka Kosor. Can she solve the deadlock and restart Croatia’s bid to join the EU?
