The new President of the European Parliament has stressed the need for the parliament to connect with the people of the EU.
Jerzy Buzek, the Parliament’s first leader from a former Iron Curtain country, told a news conference that too many european citizens feel isolated from what the European Union does. Euronews correspondent Christophe Midol-Monnet asked how he intended to change the way the parliament works in order to achieve that. Buzek said: “National parliaments are closer to the people. If we keep in touch and exchange information and contact with the national parliaments this would help the European people to understand what the EU is all about.”
