The victims of the air crash off the Comoros were mostly Comorans, but there were also more than 60 French nationals who had begun their journeys with Yemenia in Paris and Marseille.
Angry Comoran expatriates today said prayers for those who died and then tried to block passengers from checking into another Yemenia flight in Paris. One protester said: “We should boycott Yemenia. They killed our families. In this plane it could’ve been you, it could’ve been me.” It is reported about 60 people who had been due to take a flight today did not check in. The crashed plane had been used just for the final leg of a trip from France to the Comoros via Yemen. The search continues for more survivors but hope seems to be fading. The safety record of the airline has provoked a fierce debate, with claims and counter-claims between France and Yemen.
