At the Paris pret-a-porter shows, Dries Van Noten has shown his spring/summer collection for next year. The designer is known for his use of ethnic prints and original colour combinations. This year, socks were banished and shorts were hot. The collection was shown on the steps of the Paris stock market in the middle of a thunder storm which, it was generally agreed, added to the drama and ambiance of the occasion.

Jean Paul Gauliter unveiled a collection that plays with definitions of gender, mixing suits with sequins and putting his beefy male models in cut-away shoulders, split trousers and cloche hats. When asked about his corsets for men he said, “It looks like a vest, a corset, but in denim, but that top… it’s like the lycra that women were wearing in the 80s but a little looser, but still quite nice and straight and clean.”
