This section of northern France, closest to the British coast, has been a flashpoint for more than decade. Since the closure of the Sangatte camp near Calais many migrants have taken shelter in the forests and streets nearby. Migrants from countries like Afghanistan, Somalia and Eritrea try night after night to smuggle themselves into Britain, most of them in the back of trucks. Some have tried to make through the Channel Tunnel.
