The world of pop music is paying tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who has died of suspected heart failure at the age of 50. He passed away in Los Angeles just days before he was scheduled to return to the stage.
Paramedics were called to the singer’s Bel Air home after an emergency call and reports say he was not breathing when they arrived. He received intensive cardiac treatment in the ambulance but he was in a deep coma and never regained consciousness.
“The paramedics transported him to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre,” said his elder brother Jermaine. “Upon arrival at the hospital at approximately 1.14 pm, the team of doctors including emergency physicians and cardiologists attempted to resuscitate him for the period of more than one hour. But they were unsuccessful.”
Fans gathered outside the Medical Centre, hoping for a miracle. But, like much of his life, Jackson’s death was shrouded in mystery. The Hollywood website TMZ.com broke the story that he had been rushed to hospital and was also the first with his death. But for a long time there was no official announcement and it was some two hours before the news was confirmed. Then Michael Jackson’s body was flown to the Los Angeles coroner’s office, where an autopsy will be carried out later today.
In March, Jackson had launched his comeback – a year-long series of concerts in London starting next month. Every ticket was snapped up within hours.
