Pressure mounts on Berlusconi over sex allegations

The pressure is mounting on Italy’s Prime Minister.

The Italian press group L’Espresso says it is considering suing Silvio Berlusconi after he called for an advertising boycott of its La Repubblica daily. The left-leaning paper has led the attack against Berlusconi in recent weeks, including claims that escort girls were paid to attend parties at his homes. A model, Barbara Montereale, 23, has given an interview in which she claims an escort girl admitted being paid to spend time with Berlusconi. “She told me that she spent the whole night with the prime minister and they had sex,” Montereale said. Berlusconi has denied ever paying for sex and says the accusations against him are “garbage”. His wife, Veronica Lario, announced she wanted a divorce at the beginning of May.
