In London, the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition features, as usual, both established and unknown artists working in a wide variety of disciplines. The artworks were selected from the thousands of submissions presented around the theme of “Making Space”.
Eileen Cooper is one of the co-ordinators of the show and has some paintings in the exhibition. Her work often features boats symbolising a journey.
Gus Cummings draws on objects that he finds as he travels around the UK. The industrial cast offs are fused into three dimensional paintings which deliberately look as if they’ve been thrown together.
For the first time, films have been included in the show. Nineteen short films from 17 different atists. This marks a major shift – the Royal Academy finally recognising film as an art form.
The show runs until 16th August.
