A suspected child pornography ring has been broken up in a series of coordinated raids by police in four Nordic countries.

Search teams confiscated computer equipment belonging to people alleged to have been distributing films and images of child abuse on the internet. Stefan Kronqvist of Sweden’s IT crime section said Scandinavian police forces now plan to forge closer ties: “The raids were planned during the spring in cooperation with our Nordic colleagues and eleven local Swedish police authorities. We’re going to continue with our Nordic cooperation.” As many as 81 people were taken in for questioning after the raids in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Operation Viking centred on a file-sharing website called Edonkey. Swedish police monitored activity on the site before alerting colleagues in the relevant neighbouring countries as to who the main suspects were and where they lived.
