President Ahmadinejad has said the unrest in his country has as been caused by Western media claims that the election was not fair.
In his first news conference since the vote he said it had been “free and healthy”, rejecting allegations of irregularities by his moderate rival. He also said any country that dared to attack Iran would, in his words, “deeply regret” such a move. Iran’s refusal to halt its nuclear programme has raised tensions with the West. But he also said he was still open to talks with President Barack Obama.
