New UN sanctions slapped on North Korea

The UN Security Council has unanimously approved expanded sanctions and a trade and arms embargo against North Korea in response to a nuclear test on May 25.

It means that all weapons exports from North Korea and most arms imports into the communist state are banned. Both China and Russia supported the US-drafted resolution. In the past they had been reluctant to support punitive measures. The resolution is now binding under international law.
