Centre right wins in Austria

The People’s Party (centre right) have polled 30.1% of the vote in the Austrian elections for the European Parliament.  This is 3% down from the last elections in 2004, but their losses are not as serious as the socialists’ who with 9.6% less, only polled 23.5%.
 
The Greens also lost 3%, winning only 9.3% of the vote.
 
The “Liste Martin” (liberals) improved their performance however, picknig up an extra 4% of the vote to win a total of 18.2%. 
 
The Freedom Party (formerly lead by Jorg Heider) also picked up an extra 7.1% polling 12.9% and the party he founded, “The Alliance for the Future” picked up 4.8% in order to poll 4.8% indicating a shift towards the extreme right.
