Data change effects jobless total

German unemployment rose for a seventh month running in May, though the increase was much smaller than expected. However that was partly due to changes in the way the statistics are compiled by the Federal Labour Office.

The jobless total rose by just 1,000 month-on-month in May, adjusted for seasonal factors. But without the statistical changes it would have been up by 15,000 to 20,000.More about: ,
