The assassination Rafik al-Hariri the former Prime Minister of Lebanon has caused a bitter war of words. The German magazine, Der Spiegel has claimed Hezbollah was behind his death.Amidst celebrations marking the ninth anniversary of the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon the investigation by the magazine has been rejected emphatically. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said: “We will consider what Der Spiegel magazine wrote and what Zionist leaders commented on as an Israeli accusation to Hezbollah of assassinating of martyr Rafik al-Hariri, we will deal with this as an Israeli accusation.” The article claimed the United Nations tribunal has reached new conclusions and claimed the UN is keeping them secret. A UN investigation first implicated Syrian and Lebanese officers. Then a UN Special Court ordered the Lebanese authorities to release four pro-Syrian generals who had been held.
