A murder inquiry is underway in the Austrian capital Vienna today after a gun and knife attack at a Sikh temple.
Police said a religious service was taking place when a group of men suddenly stood up the congregation and attacked a preacher and worshippers. Nine people in the temple suffered stab and gun shot injuries. The preacher who was shot – named as Sant Rama Anand – died later. Other worshippers subdued the attackers and held on to them until police arrived. One witness said: “I wanted to enter the temple. One man came along and he shot everywhere. I couldn’t see who he was shooting at. One man tried to run out.. to get away.” Another witness said: “I was very scared. People had knives. There was a lot of blood. What a catastrophe.” A police investigation is underway into the incident and six men are being questioned. There are reports the attack was part of an on-going feud between Sikh families in Vienna.
