UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon has urged world business leaders to get behind efforts to draw up clearer rules on climate and energy.
Speaking in Copenhagen ahead of conference to replace the Kyoto Protocol, Ban called on those present to be at the forefront in making the global economy cleaner. ‘‘Today I want to challenge you, I want to see you in the vanguard of an unprecedented effort to re-tool the global economy into one that is cleaner, greener and more sustainable,’‘ the UN Secretary-General said. Many companies are seeking clearer carbon emission rules to plan investments and capitalise on green technology. December’s conference in the Danish capital later this year will aim to agree a new treaty to fight global warming after 2012.
