The 12 day film frenzy at Cannes reaches a thrilling climax tonight with the award of the prestigious Palme D’Or.
A bleak prison drama by French director Jacques Audiard leads the pack as hot favourite to win this year. The Prophet tells the story of an Arab youth whose six year jail term turns into an education in crime. Yesterday he and the film’s star met the press. Michael Hanneke’s The White Ribbon painted a chilling picture of pre-Nazi Germany and kept critics glued to their seats. It offered a vision of life as it was for the generation who 20 years later would embrace Hitler. The Cannes Festival loves football…and another contender: Looking for Eric, directed by Ken Loach features soccer legend Eric Cantona.
