The next time you head down to the beach you may be in for an experience out of this world. That is certainly the case for the thousands of people who have flocked to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to encounter a show of the third kind. Lightening up the night sky, it was difficult to miss the seven meter UFO hovering above. This spectator said: ‘‘It was a very interesting experience. I think it will help people get over the fear of extra-terrestrials. I would have loved to have seen it a bit closer though, it was too high up.’‘ ‘‘We did not receive much information about the artists intentions, but the effect over the people was visible, everyone was excited. Who knows maybe this was a practice for a future contact,’‘ said this on-looker. Weighing some 800 kilos and containing more than 15,000 bulbs the flashy flying saucer was dreamed up by US born artist Peter Coffin. ‘‘It is a strange thing to make a UFO because you expect a UFO to be real but it is kind of part of the artist’s job to make the things that are invisible, make the things that we aspire to see or want to believe in,’‘ said Coffin. However, the trip to Mars will have to wait. Organisers had to cancel a 20-minute flight over Copacabana beach because of fuel concerns.
