Ledger wins posthumous plaudits at Cannes

Heath Ledger’s final film — The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus — has made its debut at Cannes. Starring Lily Cole, actors Johny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell finished Ledger’s character after he died during filming. Director Terry Gilliam nearly ditched the movie after the Australian actor’s sudden death from a drug overdose.

Gilliam said:’‘ I was basically just calling people who I knew loved Heath, it had to be the nature of what we are doing, and we ended up with Colin and Jude and Johnny taking on the part, so it was quite extraordinary. Everybody in the cast and everybody in the crew was determined that this film would be finished and everybody worked longer, harder, and somehow we got through”.More about: Cannes Film Festival, Festival, France
