Clinton sax auctioned at Cannes Aids gala

The actress Sharon Stone and the former US President Bill Clinton have lead this year’s Aids charity bash at the Cannes film festival. Among the items auctioned off to raise money was Clinton’s celebrated saxaphone. It was knocked down for 130,000 euros. Founded in 1985, the foundation aims to end the global HIV epidemic through research. Gala organisers hope the funds will beat last year’s total of more than 7 million euros.

Clinton said: ‘‘I ask you to go home and tell your friends and neighbours that when times get tough that you should give more, not less. Because we live in an interdependent world where we cannot stand this level of inequality and instability.’‘ The singer Annie Lennox gave a special performance for gala guests with some tickets going for more than a 100,000 euros.
