Fiat workers strike over closure fears

The prospect of Fiat merging with Chrysler and GM Europe to become the world’s second biggest car maker has some of its Italian workers fear plant closures.

Production line workers at Fiat’s Termini Imerese factory in Sicily stopped work and blocked the gates on Thursday in protest at the possibility that it could be shut. German unions have told those in Italy that Fiat plans to close Termini and downsize its Pomigliano d’Arco plant near Naples. Unions in both countries have vowed to resist any closures.More about:
