Universities really harmonised?

“Hi, my name’s Laurie, I’m 21, and this year’s my first time voting in the European elections. My question, actually, is about students… young people who are starting out in life. The university system in Europe has been harmonised, and there are more and more Erasmus-like programmes… Does this really work?”

“Hello Laurie, I’m Pierre Assemat, a journalist at Euronews. The Erasmus student exchange programme and its global offshoot Erasmus Mundus has had undeniable success. For example, a recent report says that between 2004 and 2008, more than 10,000 Erasmus Mundus boursaries were given out, and this year it’s going into its second phase. It’s been broadened to doctorate level, and its budget has even been multiplied by four to cover 2009-2013. The bachelors, master and PHd system provides for recognition of the degree in all Europe’s universities.”
