In a marked up-beat spirit of cooperation the leaders of France and Germany have staged a joint forum in Berlin.

The get-together between Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Nicolas Sarkozy gained greater significance coming only weeks before European Parliamentary elections. In speeches prepared to galvanise supporters both leaders were at pains to stress a united front in the face of the global recession but also had comments about the future of the EU. President Sarkozy also stressed he did not back unlimited enlargement without further reforms of the blocs institutions.More about: ,
