May the 1st is being marked with mass rallies across Russia.
Some 33 events have been planned in Moscow to celebrate what was previously known as Solidarity Day but now called Spring and Labour Day. But while there is mostly celebration, police have arrested about 100 protesters at a rally in St Petersburg. Authorities say they seized weapons among extreme-right and anti-immigration protesters. Organisers say the events across the country are overshadowed by concerns about the economic crisis.
