As the swine flu death toll creeps higher, and the virus continues to spread, a man in Spain has become the first person not to have caught the bug in Mexico. It increases the likelihood of a world pandemic being declared.
The illness has so far claimed at least 160 lives in Mexico, where it was first detected. A Mexican toddler being treated in Texas has became the first victim to die outside Mexico. The flu has spread quickly but the symptoms appear to be less severe in other countries where its presence has been confirmed. Britain has now five confirmed cases. France is to push the EU to ban all flights to Mexico because of the outbreak. As the flu spreads, experts say it is most dangerous to people whose immune systems are weak or have other diseases.
