Unemployment in France has risen, according to the latest figures.

There were 2.7 percent more people looking for work in March, bringing the total unemployed to nearly two and a half million. The French government says it expects difficulties throughout 2009, but blames the problems on the global economic downturn . Young people have been hardest hit. There was an almost 50 percent increase in males under 25 seeking work. President Nicolas Sarkozy has unveiled a 1.3 billion euro plan to help young apprentices and jobseekers.More about: ,
