Hannover Trade Fair opens window on future

Energy efficiency in industrial processes is the theme of this year’s Hanover trade fair, considered the world’s most important in the domain of mechanical engineering.

It is seen as a key indicator of economic health, and touring the fair with South Korea’s prime minister Germany’s Angela Merkel sounded bullish about the pair’s futures: “We are convinced that our countries can develop our prosperity through innovation, new technologies, and eco-friendly technologies,” she said. With 6150 exhibitors from 61 countries the massive expo halls are full to capacity, and at the record levels set last year and the year before. Industrial robots, green power generation, energy-saving and so-called smart processes are the stars this year, and there is a host of seminars and discussions around the main event, which groups 13 trade shows in all.
