In a move that appeared designed to remind the world of Serbia’s objections to Kosovan independence, Serbian President, Boris Tadic spent Orthodox Good Friday at a Kosovan monastery.

Tadic was at pains to emphasise that his aim was to bring a message of peace while at the same time reiterating that he still considered Kosovo to be part of Serbia. “I bring a message of peace for Serbs and Albanians,” he said, “for everyone who lives in Kosovo, in our Serbia.” It was not clear whether Kosovan authorities had granted Tadic permission to enter Kosovo, or whether the Serbian president requested it. It is understood that the European Union and the United States exercised diplomatic pressure to ensure Tadic could make the visit.
