Before heading home after a marathon tour, Barack Obama has further signalled America’s wish to engage with Muslims and the rest of the world.
In Istanbul, on the last leg of his debut trip on the world stage as US President, he met religious leaders of different faiths. And he visited the Blue Mosque, accompanied by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Obama his also been pursuing his drive to connect with young people internationally. So, as he did in Strasbourg last week, the President held a town hall style question-and-answer session with students. He defended the United States while admitting it had made mistakes and has flaws. And he said he believed peace in the Middle East was possible, but that Israelis and Palestinians must make compromises.
