The French president’s office is to issue a decree next week banning companies that are getting state aid from giving stock options and bonuses to their bosses.

That word came as GDF Suez confirmed it has paid more than 10 million euros in stock options to its chief executive Gerard Mestrallet and vice president Jean-Francois Cirelli. The economic crisis has fuelled public anger in France over perceived corporate excesses including a 3.2 million euro “golden parachute” for the departing boss of car parts firm Valeo.
