Czech PM loses confidence vote

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek has been forced to resign after losing a no-confidence vote in parliament.

His minority centre-right administration has long been hampered by its weak standing in parliament. Now the Social Democrats, in a vote today, have succeeded in bringing down the Czech cabinet. Social Democrat leader Jiri Paroubek had said he wanted the cabinet to stay on until June to avoid changing the team during the country’s EU presidency.
