Guatemala discovery sheds light on Mayan calendar… Archaeologists studying an ancient Mayan site in Guatemala’s northern jungle have made a discovery they say is as important as finding the Mona Lisa. At El Mirador, the biggest Mayan city in the world, they have uncovered a pair of carved stone friezes that depict scenes from the very foundation of the ancient civilisation.
