Sri Lankan minister among bombing victims

At least 14 people have been killed and 35 wounded in a bomb attack during a Muslim festival in Sri Lanka.

Authorities say the country’s telecommunications minister is among the wounded.

Officials are blaming Tamil Tiger rebels for the suicide attack, about 160 kiometres south of the capital.

It is reported that half a dozen government ministers had attended the festival.

The Tamil Tigers have so far not responded to claims they were involved in the bombing.

It comes despite the fact the Sri Lankan military says it has cornered the rebels along a small part of the north-eastern coast.
