The Israeli Justice Ministry says it will charge the former president Moshe Katsav with rape, other sex offences and obstruction of justice.
Israeli media say he could be charged within days. Katsav has been accused by several women of abusing them when he was tourism minister, and then president. When the affair came to light back in 2006, other women came forward with similar allegations. The 63 year-old resigned the presidency the following year, and confessed to indecent acts against a female employee, but when his trial began in 2008 he went back on a plea bargain which would have dropped the rape charges and lessened his risk of a 16-year jail term, insisting he would fight to prove his innocence.
