Mandelson goes Green, involuntarily


British business minister Peter Mandleson is not a politician to trifle with, but an environmental protestor caught the minister with some soup on Friday as he arrived at a conference in London.

She was protesting at his and his government’s decision in January to expand Heathrow airport, and made her case in the most public way possible as Mandelson arrived to promote the development of low-carbon industries. A third runway and new terminal at Heathrow would scupper any chance of the UK reducing carbon emissions claims the anti-Heathrow lobby, which along with locals who would see their villages destroyed is determined to stop the project. The government says Heathrow is full and with forecasted growth in air transport needs to expand for business and safety reasons.
